Landon Firmstone Promoted to Cash Management Specialist
October 25, 2024
Honesdale, PA – Thomas E. Sheridan Jr., President, and CEO of The Honesdale National Bank, announced Landon Firmstone has been promoted to Cash Management Specialist.
In making the announcement Sheridan stated, “Landon’s dedication to continuous learning and his ability to foster strong client relationships have been reflective of our mission and HNB culture.” He continued, “We are confident that he will bring the same level of excellence and commitment to his new role, contributing significantly to our team’s success."
As Cash Management Specialist, Firmstone will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Cash Management sector. This includes managing customer interactions, servicing and installing equipment, and ensuring customers are matched with the most suitable products for their needs.
He is a graduate of Western Wayne High School and has received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management degree from Marywood University.
Firmstone currently resides in Waymart, PA, and began his career in the financial industry with The Honesdale National Bank in October 2023. He was previously the Management Trainee, an experience that allowed him to learn extensively and form relationships with fellow employees and customers.
In commenting on his new role at the bank, Firmstone noted, “I have learned so much about all the banking industry and have formed great relationships with my colleagues. HNB has a fantastic atmosphere, and it is evident that everyone is on the same team. All employees are always willing to help each other and make you feel invited no matter which office you are in. I feel as if I have the groundwork to have a long career here at HNB.”
Outside of the Bank, he is a member of the Honesdale Area Jaycees and is also the current Tournament Director for Honest Anglers.
Additionally, he enjoys hunting, fishing and golfing in his free time.
MariBeth Valada Joins HNB as a Mortgage Advisor

Honesdale, PA – Thomas E. Sheridan Jr., President, and CEO of The Honesdale National Bank, announced MariBeth Valada has joined HNB as a Mortgage Advisor.
In making the statement, Sheridan noted, “We are excited to welcome MariBeth, who brings a diverse background and a strong commitment to building relationships with clients in Luzerne County.” He continued, “Her passion for customer satisfaction and community engagement aligns perfectly with HNB's mission, and we look forward to the positive impact she will have on our team and our clients.”
Currently residing in Laflin, PA, she brings a diverse background to HNB, including roles as a Property Manager and Administrative Assistant. She also held a New York State Real Estate Agent license and was a New York State Notary Public and currently obtaining her PA license.
In this role, she is responsible for working with borrowers and helping them through the loan process from pre-qualification to closing. She will actively network with local real estate companies, realtors, attorneys, and others to establish positive working relationships. Additionally, she will participate in local events to market and expand the HNB brand in Luzerne County.
In describing her recent move to HNB, Valada said, “I am excited to be working for an established organization that is deeply committed to both customer and employee satisfaction. In her free time, she enjoys traveling; practicing yoga and Pilates; walking Carmine, her beagle mix; and spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren. She also loves going out and supporting all the great local restaurants, savoring the diverse culinary experiences in her area.
Marlie Martines Promoted to VP, Chief Risk Officer

Honesdale, PA – Thomas E. Sheridan Jr., President, and CEO of The Honesdale National Bank, announced Marlie Martines has been promoted to VP, Chief Risk Officer.
In making the announcement Sheridan stated, “Marlie has consistently demonstrated exceptional skill and leadership in risk management, effectively contributing to our organization’s success and stability.” He continued, “As she steps into the role of Vice President, Chief Risk Officer, I am confident that her vision will greatly enhance our risk strategies and help us effectively navigate the evolving financial landscape."
As VP, Chief Risk Officer, Martines will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks across all aspects of the bank.
She is a graduate of Forest City Regional High School and has received a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Master’s in Public Administration from West Chester University.
Currently residing in Vandling, PA, she brings over 12 years of experience in the finance sector, specializing in risk management and compliance.
In commenting on her new role at the bank, Martines noted, “Whether it is through our normal banking services or the donations and service hours of our employees, I can't help but feel a sense of pride to be able to see the direct impact the bank has within our community.”
Outside of the Bank, she is a volunteer for the Brian M Sheare Memorial Fund, as well as a Hero for St. Jude Children's Resource Hospital.
Additionally, she enjoys running, reading, home renovating, and spending time with her nieces and nephews.
Melanie Schmidt Joins HNB as Branch Manager of Lakewood Office

Honesdale, PA – Thomas E. Sheridan Jr., President, and CEO of The Honesdale National Bank, announced Melanie Schmidt has joined HNB as Branch Manager.
In making the statement, Sheridan noted, “We’re thrilled to have Melanie join us as our new Branch Manager of our Lakewood Office. Her experience and recent certifications make her a strong addition to our team” He continued, “We are certain that her leadership will advance our objectives and elevate the quality of service we provide to the community.”
Schmidt is a graduate of Honesdale High School. Her strong ties to the local community enhance her understanding of regional needs and reinforce our commitment to local engagement.
Currently residing in Lakewood, PA, she started her 7-year career in the financial industry in 2017 as a summer Teller. She quickly transitioned to a Full-Time Teller role, advanced to a Customer Service Representative in March 2020, and obtained her notary license. By April 2024, she had become an Assistant Manager and earned her NMLS license. In August 2024, she took on the role of Branch Manager at HNB.
In this role, she is responsible for overseeing daily operations and managing the branch staff to ensure smooth and efficient functioning. Additionally, she drives sales and business development, maintains compliance with banking regulations, and represents the bank in the community, addressing any issues that arise.
In describing her recent move to HNB, Schmidt said, “I’m excited about this new role and confident in my ability to succeed as a branch manager. Achieving this position early in my career shows my commitment and capability. I’m passionate about banking and dedicated to helping people.”
In her free time, she loves to spend time with her husband Brandon, daughter Paisley, and dog Apollo. They love to go out on their side by side on the weekends and ride around the town. Family time is her favorite time.
Theodor Radu Promoted to Assistant VP, Trust Officer

Currently residing in Honesdale, PA, he began career in the financial industry with HNB, starting as a teller and gradually advanced through various positions in deposit operations and financial services. He gained further experience working for a regional bank in southeast PA before returning to HNB in his current role as Trust Officer.
Outside of the Bank, as a father of a three-year-old, he has little time for hobbies. When he does find time, he often goes hiking, golfing, and enjoys being outdoors as much as possible. He is thankful to live in a diverse and beautiful area with a never-ending supply of opportunities for outdoor exploration.

In making the announcement, Schweighofer stated, “Tom Sheridan has truly helped shape the strength and stability of The Honesdale National Bank over his extensive career with us, and the Board is truly grateful for his leadership.” He continued, “Kate Bryant holds the leadership, character, and expertise to continue the Bank’s mission forward and we will surely see her succeed in this new role.”
“HNB has an outstanding history in our local area, and I am truly grateful for having been given the opportunity to contribute to our Bank’s growth and success,” said Sheridan. “Kate’s leadership will undoubtedly aid the Bank in continuing to support the evolving needs of our customers, communities, and the interests of our shareholders.”
“Since 1836, The Honesdale National Bank has built a legacy of serving our employees, customers, shareholders, and community and it is an honor and privilege to lead the continuation of these values well into the future,” said Bryant.
Bryant has served as the Bank’s Chief Financial Officer since 2016, through which she is responsible for managing the financial analysis, risk, planning, and performance of the bank and helps enable its strategic directives. She had been previously promoted to Senior Vice President, CFO in 2020 and Executive Vice President, CFO in 2023.
Bryant began her career in the financial industry in 1999, starting in the banking industry in 2003. She joined HNB in 2004 in the Accounting Department and helped shepherd the development of accounting and Bank Security Act (BSA) functions.
Bryant resides in Honesdale, Pa. and is a graduate of Honesdale High School. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Finance and Minor in Economics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She later received her Master of Business Administration from Villanova University. Her professional accolades include certifications from the ABA Wharton Leadership Lab, Financial Managers School, Chamber Leadership Wayne, the Penn State Supervisory Program, and PBA School of Banking, She has been recognized as a Dress for Success Lackawanna Woman of Impact as well as a NEPA Business Journal Top 25 Women in Business.
Outside of the bank, she serves on the board of trustees for the Wayne County Community Foundation, Wayne Memorial Hospital, and as a board member for the Chamber of the Northern Poconos. She actively volunteers with Honesdale Friends of Football, Herd the Curd 5K/10K committee, and the Wayne County 4-H program. She has formerly served on the boards of the Wayne Memorial Hospital Foundation and Wayne County Public Library. In her spare time, she can be found spending time with her sons Abraham and Caleb, and husband, Zack.

Brandon Brown Joins HNB as VP, Commercial Lender of Moscow Office

Brown is a graduate of Lake Lehman High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Lock Haven University.
Currently residing in Wilkes Barre, PA, he started his 11-year career in the financial industry at a local financial institution as a universal banker and progressively advanced to his current role. He has consistently engaged directly with business clients, demonstrating a keen interest in the dynamic nature of business operations and the continuous evolution of enterprises.
In this role, he is responsible for addressing the lending needs of businesses and investors daily. This includes engaging with clients and key influencers to review and discuss the various lending options that HNB provides for their business or client requirements.
In describing his recent move to HNB, Brown said, “After the first week with HNB, I have found the experience to be exceptional. The team has been notably welcoming and accommodating, creating a positive and supportive environment. I look forward to the opportunities and experiences that lie ahead.”
In his free time, he is actively engaged in his son's extracurricular activities, particularly soccer. He is currently serving as a coach for the Hanover Area Youth Soccer program
Additionally, he dedicates himself to cultivating Chestnut trees. Each year, he grows approximately 1,500 trees, which are distributed to clients across the Eastern United States.

Jamie Stracham Promoted to Assistant Branch Manager of Eynon Office

As Assistant Branch Manager, Stracham will be responsible for supporting the branch manager in daily operations, supervising staff, and ensuring customer satisfaction of the Eynon Office.
Stracham started her career in the banking industry in 2017. She started with HNB as a Teller, promoted to Teller/CSR, Head-Teller/CSR, and now Assistant Branch Manager of the Eynon Office.
In commenting on her new role at the Bank, Stracham noted, “I love the support and feedback I have received since joining HNB. Working here has been an incredibly rewarding experience, allowing me to grow both professionally and personally. Cassandra Saul Promoted to Branch Manager of Forest City Office

Honesdale, PA – Thomas E. Sheridan Jr., President, and CEO of The Honesdale National Bank, has announced Cassandra Saul has been promoted to Branch Manager of the Forest City Office.
In making the announcement Sheridan stated, “Cassie is an asset to our HNB team. As the former branch supervisor at our Lakewood office, she demonstrated exceptional leadership, and a deep understanding of our clients’ needs.” He continued, “We are confident that Cassie will bring the same dedication and expertise to serving the Forest City community.”
As Branch Manager, Saul will be responsible for promoting and developing new customer relationships, managing employees and customer expectations, and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Forest City Office.
She is a graduate of Forest City Reginal School District and resides in Pleasant Mount, PA.
Saul started her career in the banking industry in 2017 with HNB as Part-Time Teller, promoted to Teller/CSR, Head-Teller/CSR, Assistant Branch Manager of Forest City and Lakewood Offices, Branch Manager of the Lakewood Office, and now Branch Manager of the Forest City Office.
In commenting on her new role at the bank, Saul noted, “Working at HNB has given me the opportunity to grow in the banking industry, as well as personally. Starting out as a part-time teller and working my way to branch manager shows how the bank offers many opportunities for advancement within its own organization. Jessica Spare Joins HNB as VP, Commercial Loan Officer

Spare is a graduate of Hazelton Area High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in business management from Pennsylvania State University.
Currently residing in Drums, PA, she started her 27-year career in the financial industry at a local financial institution as a Teller. From there she progressed to CSR, Credit Analyst, Portfolio Manager, Small Business Lender, and eventually Commercial Loan Officer. She will continue at HNB as VP, Commercial Loan Officer.
In this role, she is responsible for the development and management of commercial loan customers to establish long-term banking relationships in the Luzerne County market.
In describing her recent move to HNB, Spare said, “I am excited to be a part of the HNB family! It is clear to see that everyone works together as a team and supports each other to achieve success!”
Spare is a member of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce and the Hazleton Area High School Baseball Booster Club. She currently serves as Chair of a Women in Business Planning sub-committee along with a number of other leadership roles in the community.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and volunteering in the community.
Jessica Gay Promoted to Branch Manager of Hamlin Office

Honesdale, PA – Thomas E. Sheridan Jr., President, and CEO of The Honesdale National Bank announced Jessica Gay as Branch Manager of the Bank’s Hamlin Office.
In making the statement, Sheridan noted, “Jess has been a thought leader as she has grown through our management trainee program.” He continued, “Her leadership skills will be providing a great foundation to connect our team and provide great service to our customers at our Hamlin Office.”
Gay is a graduate of Honesdale High School and received an associate degree from Lackawanna College.
Currently residing in Beach Lake, PA, she started her career at a local pharmacy as a pharmacy sales associate. She then started her now five-year banking career as a teller at another local financial institution. She was then promoted to Universal Banker in a few short years. In 2022, she accepted a position at HNB as a Management Trainee and is now promoted to Branch Manager.
In this role, she is responsible for promoting and developing new customer relationships, managing new employees and customer expectations, and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Hamlin Office.
In describing her time with HNB, Gay said, “Working at The Honesdale National Bank has given me so many opportunities to grow not only professionally, but also personally. The knowledge I have been able to gain from my time at HNB has been unmatched by anything I have ever experienced before.” She continued, “I am honored to be part of such a phenomenal community bank, and I can’t wait to see what this next chapter of my career holds.”

HNB Announces Application to Open New Office in Moscow, PA

Honesdale, PA (May 14, 2024) – In demonstration of its continued commitment to provide the power of community banking services to Northeastern Pennsylvania, The Honesdale National Bank (HNB) today announced its intentions to open a new location in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
HNB has filed its official application to the Office of the Comptroller of Currency (OCC) to open a banking office at 330 N Main Street, Moscow PA 18444.
"HNB is happy to announce our plans in Moscow to provide community banking services," stated Thomas E. Sheridan Jr., President, and CEO at HNB. He continued, “Moscow is a natural extension of our current footprint. The opening of a local office will allow us to best invest in and support the needs of local residents and businesses so we may continue to grow together.”

HNB Contributes to Susquehanna Community School District

Honesdale, PA – The Honesdale National Bank has recently made a $5,000 contribution to the Susquehanna Community School District via Commonwealth Charitable Management, Inc. through the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program. The funds will go towards financial education programs in the school district.

Sheridan Jr., stated, “We are happy to support The Susquehanna Community School District as they enhance their educational programs.” He continued, “The best way to get our future generations prepared for the next step in life, is providing access to critical financial lessons and resources.”

HNB Announces Commitment to Honesdale Streetscape with Mural

The Honesdale National Bank (HNB) is partnering with a local artist to contribute to the ongoing beautification of downtown Honesdale. Committed to elevating the downtown’s offerings and experience, a vibrant mural will grace the Church Street façade of the Bank’s flagship office at 733 Main Street.
"I firmly believe that the best investments we make are in the communities we serve," stated Thomas E. Sheridan Jr., President, and CEO at HNB. He continued, “Together, we have the power to shape our communities and create experiences that truly make our area a great place to live, work, and play."
At the forefront of this endeavor is a thoughtful design that seamlessly melds a contemporary depiction of Honesdale's rich heritage. Each element of the beautification project pays homage to the town's storied past while embracing a forward-looking approach to urban development.
The project was realized in response to Honesdale’s designation as a Keystone’s Communities Main Street through the State of Pennsylvania’s Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED). As the town evolves and creates paths for generations to come, the rejuvenation of Main Street serves as a testament to the Bank’s unwavering commitment to development and collaboration.
The artist behind this spirited project, locally renowned muralist Jeff George, stated, “"It’s always an honor when I’m asked to help with the Honesdale streetscape. Helping The Honesdale National Bank share some of their heritage with our community is a privilege.”
The project is tentatively scheduled to begin in May 2024. The impact of this collaboration extends far beyond mere aesthetics. By enhancing the curb appeal of its Main Street Office, the project is meant to inspire continued investment in cultivating Honesdale’s interests in serving as a premier destination and point of pride for residents.
“We see the mural as a visualization and call-to-action for all local businesses, community partners, and residents to contribute to our town’s story and have appreciation for all it affords us,” says Sheridan.

Sarah O'Hora Promoted to AVP, Commercial Loan Officer

Honesdale, PA – Thomas E. Sheridan Jr., President, and CEO of The Honesdale National Bank, announced Sarah O’Hora has been promoted to Assistant Vice President, Commercial Loan Officer.
In making the statement, Sheridan noted, “Sarah’s recognized journey at HNB exemplifies dedication and perseverance as she started from a part-time role and ascended to her new pivotal role as AVP.” He continued, “This promotion is a result of her loyalty to our customers and identification of opportunities for the Bank to further serve our communities through lending.”
O’Hora is a graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School and received a Bachelor of Science Degree (Cum Laude) from Millersville University in 2011. She also attended the PA Bankers School of Banking in 2015, Leadership Northern Poconos Class of 2016, ABA Bank Marketing School Program in 2016, and PA Bankers School of Commercial Lending in 2023.
Currently residing in Lake Ariel, PA, she started her 12-year career in the financial industry with HNB. Previous positions included Teller, Customer Service Representative, Marketing Assistant, Marketing and Communications Specialist, Commercial Loan Portfolio Manager, Commercial Loan Officer I, Commercial Loan Officer II, and she will continue her career as AVP, Commercial Loan Officer.
In this role, she is responsible for developing and managing commercial loan relationships, collecting, and analyzing financial information, and negotiating terms for small business and other commercial loan applicants.
In describing her time with HNB, O’Hora said, “In the past 12 years, I have gotten to know many of the hardworking individuals who make our communities thrive. I enjoy learning about their businesses and helping them reach their goals and continue to grow.” She continued, “HNB was founded to support the local communities and we are continuing to do just that.”
Sarah attends Wallenpaupack Church and serves as Worship Director. She also enjoys spending time with her family, golfing, pheasant hunting, target shooting, ATV rides, and walks in the woods with their family dog, Nelli.
Donna Rinehimer Promoted to VP, Mortgage Underwriting Manager

Honesdale, PA – Thomas E. Sheridan Jr., President, and CEO of The Honesdale National Bank, has announced Donna Rinehimer has been promoted to Vice President, Mortgage Underwriting Manager.
In making the announcement, Sheridan stated, “Donna has established herself as a dedicated and experienced professional in the field of mortgage underwriting. With a wealth of knowledge and hands-on experience, she has contributed to the ongoing success and growth of HNB.”
Rinehimer's 22-year journey at HNB began in 2002 as a Mortgage Processor, where she cultivated her expertise in property appraisals and underwriting principles. Over the years, she progressed to the role of Mortgage Loan Underwriting Manager and subsequently assumed the position of AVP, Mortgage Underwriting Manager.
As Vice President, Mortgage Underwriting Manager, her daily assignments will include assisting Richard Simmers, VP, Residential Mortgage Manager, with maintaining the latest underwriting guidelines, managing a team of processors and underwriters, and attending informational meetings with realtors and loan originators.
In mentioning her role at HNB, she mentioned, “I am grateful for my time at HNB. I feel that I am treated with respect and given encouragement. I love that every day presents a different challenge and I gain the opportunity to develop my management skills and the skills of my team.”
Outside of the bank, she is a social member of the Tilbury Community Center in West Nanticoke and contributes time with various affairs to help the PA Wounded Warriors. She enjoys spending her free time with family.
